By default, Windows Client doesn't allow a user to open zip files in the mounted M drive directly. This is because opening a zip file means downloading the whole zip file to the cache first. When the zip file is big, the download will generate high network traffic and cause Windows Explorer to slow down.
This setting can be enabled on 3 levels: User device (only affects the particular device), Tenant Admin Group Policies (affects all Tenant users), and Cluster Admin Group Policies (affects the whole cluster). Always keep in mind that a change at a higher level in the Policies overwrites the lowest levels.
There are two settings here:
- Enable in-place open zip file: When this is enabled, the user can open a zip file in the mounted drive if the file size is within the limit.
- Max size of zip file allowed to open in place: It defines the size limit for the zip file allowed to open. It is to prevent the user/Windows Explorer from downloading big zip files. By default, it is 20M. When the admin enables in-place zip file opening, only files within 20 MB can be opened.
After updating the settings, please save them. Then, restart the Windows client to read the new value.
The setting applies to both zip files and exe files.
